Vern W. Jenkins, International Trade Business Advisor, has been with the Washington SBDC since January 2011. Vern has played a key role in developing both training content and advising tools to help New-To-Export and New-To-Market clients become successful exporters. In 2018 he was named the Washington SBDC State Star for outstanding performance and also received a NASBITE (National Association of Small Business International Trade Educators) International Program of Excellence Award for his work to build export readiness and success in rural communities. He is a Certified Global Business Professional and has a Masters of International Management from Whitworth University.
Prior to joining the SBDC, he had more than 18 years’ experience in international business working in countries including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India and Afghanistan. As CEO of Scentia International Inc. for seven years, Vern provided onsite bilingual project management training and quality control consulting services to factory managers and line supervisors employed by American companies operating in Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and India. Some of the more notable clients included Reebok, Nike, Phillips Petroleum, Gatehill International, Sealand Group, Proctor & Gamble, Duracell China, Nokia China, and China North Offshore Oil Corp. As CEO of Horizon International Consulting for six years, he provided onsite sourcing assessment and supplier qualification of potential Asia-based joint venture partners and key-component manufacturers for U.S. and European Corporations entering or expanding business operations in the China Market. Vern has also worked as a Program Manager for a USAID Project to rebuild the higher education system in Afghanistan and was a lead consultant to successfully re-establish the Institute of Diplomacy for the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul, Afghanistan.
